“Never give up your initial principles”, a piece of advice from father to son…
In 1983, Abdurrahman Şengel, an engineer in profession, decided to quit his job as an executive in TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) and start over from scratch. And only after that he laid down the foundations of Gentek Medical.
On the day of his resignation, Mr.Sengel’s father passed away. The journey he embarked upon to realise his father’s dreams still continues with Ali Şengel, the third generation joining the team.
Back then, during the days of establishment, Turkey was undergoing tough times due to economic crisis and political challenges which made things even more challenging. Being a start-up back then simply meant “taking risks”. So this journey started with three people on truly limited finances faced serious challenges.
To Mr. Şengel, success means “locking on a single target”. On the same token, GENTEK focuses on one single task in order to provide the best service to healthcare professionals and excel in all areas.
In 1985 GENTEK signed its first dealership agreement with KARL STORZ. Other companies in the sector followed the lead and chose GENTEK as a dealer.
Mr. Sengel believes that the secret behind family-run businesses is never giving up one’s initial principles; and this is a word of advice from Mr.Sengel to Ali Sengel, his son, who joined GENTEK having completed his education. This principle has always been sustained in GENTEK.
GENTEK made its first debut in the sector with only three employees making up a smaller family when compared to today’s larger family comprising more than 100 employees. Memories of the first fair, birthdays and new year celebrations, first dealership agreement, hosting the first foreign guests and awards…
GENTEK still embraces professionalism without losing it’s amateur spirit. Long-lasting relations with employees, solution partner and customers are highly valued. Mrs.Z.Lale Özpekel Besevli, General Manager, is here the case in point. She joined the GENTEK family in 1987. Up until year 1997, when she became the GM, she worked at every position honing her experience. She took the helm and has been navigating with great acumen ever since; contributing extensively to the growth of GENTEK.
“Always mind the quality of the products you sell. Imagine that one day it will be a member of your own family to be operated with these devices. Act accordingly”; this constant principle of Mr.Sengel has been combined with the vision of Mrs. Ozpekel Besevli which is to differentiate oneself; differentiate the company; improve continuously; increase competencies and focus on innovations.
Teamwork at GENTEK is crucial… The idea of giving authorization to dealers and all employees has been introduced upon establishment.
